引:

"They are no brothers. They don't act like that. BOYFRIENDS. They act more like they are a BOYFRIEND and a GIRLFRIEND." ——Kaiser Chief on Gallagher bros.

1,For Noel, Liam is "the extraordinary guy" (1997)

"I sang this one (Magic Pie). Of course, me and Liam had a row about it. 'Why can't I sing
that?' 'OK, I'll do Fade In/Out then.' 'No, you won't.' But it's his favourite
track now. The first line, 'An extraordinary guy/Can never have an ordinary
day', comes from him asking me, 'How come you never get into any of the
situations I get into?”

Source: Q, September 1997

2,Noel worried about Liam (1997)

"Yeah, the thing about him is that he's still not cottoned onto how we make him sing an angry song as well as he does. The more you wind him up, the better his singing is. The more you wind him up, the more you call him a cunt, the more you bring the papers in and say, 'Look what they're saying about you, you soft bastard!', he'll just go in there and deliver straight away. But he's got the hardest life to deal with, being the singer and being with Patsy. And to be honest, I would've thought he'd have gone under by now. I was saying to my mam a few months ago, 'It doesn't look good, he's only 24 and it's not very healthy' but he's hung in there.

2. Noel担心Liam

3,It's a mix of adoration and disdain that drives the two (1997)

"He’s got a sneer, inne?"' Noel says of Liam. Each brother fondly refers to the absent sibling as Our Kid. Each claims to be the other's biggest fan. It's a mix of adoration and disdain that drives the two. Without Noel, Liam is just a good-looking lout. And Noel's songs don't resonate by themselves. Without that voice, that cocksure snarl that treats vowels like taffy - without Liam, Noel's lyrics are nothing more than fodder for yearbook quotes.”

4, Whatever's going through my mind is going through his (1997)

“People are always saying, "Oh, Noel, you must have been envisaging Liam singing this lyric because it feels so natural when he's singing it." But that's because we're family. We have the same blood, the same parents, and whatever's going through my mind is going through his. It's as simple as that. The only problem I have with Liam over lyrics is that I'm dyslexic, so sometimes I forget to write down words, or spell them incorrectly. Then when Liam sings them incorrectly he says, "But it doesn't make any fuckin' sense!"- and then it turns out I forgot half of the sentence.”

5, "Then," says Noel, "it frightened him." (1997)

"When I'm writing a song," says Noel, "if there's a note that I can't sing, that I know for a fact that he won't be able to sing as well, I'll still keep it in. And he'll say, 'I can't go that high.' 'Ah, yes you f***in' ken, you better hope you can go that high, 'cause if you don't sing it then I'm gonna sing it and then you're not gonna sing it.' And then he goes away and learns it till he sings it properly."

Of course, it works both ways.

"I remember when I played 'Champagne Supernova' for the first time. I said, 'What'd ya think of it? Noel pulls a sour Liam mug: Eh, 'sairight.' I said, 'Yeah, but it's not finished.' You know what he said? He said, 'It'll be all right when it's finished.'I was like, 'F***in' cheeky bastard! Noel clenches a fist and makes the why-I-oughta gesture. "Then you go away and you think, 'Actually, maybe he's right' And then I put that middle bit in with the guitar solo and all that. Then," says Noel, "it frightened him."

6,Noel's songs get Liam out of bed in the morning (1997)

Do Noel’s songs still surprise you?

"That’s what gets me out of bed in the morning. He’s top. A fantastic songwriter. He’s the devil, isn’t he, man? You might as well sell your soul. I’d sell it. No one knows where it goes. It’s better than turning into a cat, isn’t it? I’d rather get a few quid for it and a few songs. No one knows where your soul goes. What is a soul? You’ve got a voice, a big dick, or a fucking top pair of trainers. What’s a soul?"

Noel

7,Liam won't sing without Noel (1997)

"The thing about Liam, which I still can’t get me head round at all, is this: I gave him the demo tapes a year ago. It was last May, right. We’d done all our bits for the album and we had two weeks off. Liam was going to sing all the vocals in two weeks. Of course, once I was out of the country he went and sat in the pub for two weeks. He won't sing unless I'm there. And then he moans if I moan at him. [Shakes head despairingly] But no, it’s pretty good actually. It’s very good."

Source: Select, August 1997

8,Liam as Noel's puppet (1997)

The mood, such as it is, is neatly forecasted by an initial exchange between the Gallaghers. "Sit on me knee," says Liam, as Noel perches on a flight case.
"You’re the puppet," comes the response. "You sit on my fucking knee."

9,Noel looking forward to a night out with Liam (1997)

Another cough from outside and Noel winks.

"That's my signal. I'll have to get off or I'll miss me train to Paris, and I don't want to do that, I'm looking forward to our night out too much."

10, We all need someone we can lean on (1997)

"Those American gigs were good and reminded us just how much we love playing our songs. Our Kid was great. He phoned up all nervous and I said to him, 'If you're having trouble singing have some black coffee and it'll open the muscles in your throat'. He phones me up in my room later and goes, 'I'm really nervous, man, I feel really worried'. I'm like, 'It's good to be nervous before a gig'. He goes, 'No, man, not bothered about that, I think I've drunk too much coffee, man'. He thought he'd OD'd on it! Stupid cunt had six espressos one after the other."

11,He looked me in the eyes in the BA departure lounge (1997/1996)

Liam leaving the band at the airport to go house hunting) "I'll tell you the exact story, right. He looked me in the eyes in the British Airways departure lounge and says, 'I've got nowhere to live, I've got to get somewhere to live'. And I was that gobsmacked that I said, 'Do one then'. I didn't actually think he would! He went, 'Right, see you in a bit', I said, 'Right, see you in a bit', fully expecting him to come back in five minutes time. And he didn't. The cunt. He fucked off! When we got to America everyone was asking me where Liam was and I said, 'You're not going to believe this, he didn't come. Right, we've just had three months off for the sole purpose of buying somewhere to live and he's just decided right now, NOW, that he needs to find somewhere to live'. We all laughed about it in the end because only he could do something like that, but it was out of order for the kids and that.".

Source: NME, July 1997

12, Noel and Liam dancing together, 1997

All of them were quiet , expectant. This music had taken seven months to realize. Feedback, guitars, bass, drums, sonic effect now filled the huge speakers. The drinks on the table started to shake. Suddenly the musical dust settled and the band strode magnificently into 'Do You Know What I Mean?".

As his voice filled the studio, attacked us from all angles, Liam walked forward to stand by his brother and listen hard. Noel turned and smiled. Then he put his arm around his younger brother and the pair of them spontaneously started dancing and laughing at this thing they had achieved. "

音乐突然静止,华丽大气的“Do You Know What I mean?”

13, Just today he came up to me and gave me a great big kiss (1997)

Finally, how is the rocky relationship between Noel and Liam, rock's most famous rival siblings? Are they still the battling Gallaghers or has a truce been called in the name of rock 'n' roll?
"Everything's great," says Noel. "Just today he came up to me and gave me a great big kiss. So the tablets are definitely working."
